We Are Patients.
Not Physicians.
This site was built from the waiting rooms, the failed cycles, the stacks of research papers, and the desperate 2am Google searches. We started writing because we couldn't find a single honest, plain-language resource about fertility treatment in Michigan.
Born from a Fertility Journey That Left Us Full of Questions
In 2016, after a diagnosis of unexplained infertility and a failed IUI cycle, our founder Sarah found herself drowning in medical jargon, contradictory forum posts, and clinic websites designed to sell rather than inform. Michigan had plenty of fertility clinics — but almost no independent, patient-written resources to help navigate the system.
So she started writing. First for herself — notes from appointments, summaries of research papers, questions to ask the RE. Then she started sharing those notes publicly. Within a year, thousands of Michigan families were reading them every month.
Today, Michigan Infertility Expert is a small editorial team of patients who have collectively navigated IVF, IUI, PGT, PCOS, male factor infertility, egg freezing, and recurrent pregnancy loss. We write what we wish we'd been able to read.
"I spent three weeks trying to understand what an AFC count meant and why it mattered for my IVF protocol. I never found a single article that explained it clearly — so I wrote one myself."
None of our writers hold medical licenses, nursing credentials, or positions at fertility clinics. Author bios reflect personal patient experience only. We do not provide medical advice, diagnoses, or treatment recommendations. Our content is designed to help readers understand fertility medicine — not replace a conversation with their reproductive endocrinologist.
How We Research Every Article
Patient experience is where we start — but never where we stop. Here is the process behind every article we publish.
Every article starts from a real question — one our writers or readers had and couldn't find a good answer to.
We research peer-reviewed literature, ASRM Practice Bulletins, SART reports, and Endocrine Society guidelines before writing a word.
We translate clinical language into plain English — the way we wished someone had explained it to us before our first RE appointment.
Every factual claim is cited. We disclose our research sources, note our limitations, and remind readers to consult their RE.
Our Authoritative Sources
The primary US professional body for reproductive medicine. We reference their Practice Bulletins, Committee Opinions, and guidelines extensively.
Visit ASRM ↗Published national and clinic-level IVF success rate data. We cite SART data and teach readers how to interpret it accurately.
Visit SART ↗Patient advocacy organization and the most trusted non-clinical resource for people navigating infertility in the US.
Visit RESOLVE ↗We search PubMed for primary literature. We preference systematic reviews and meta-analyses and disclose when evidence is limited.
Visit PubMed ↗The leading peer-reviewed journal in reproductive medicine. Many of our in-depth IVF and PGT articles cite published studies from F&S.
Visit F&S ↗Annual federal data on assisted reproductive technology in the US. We use CDC data to provide national context for Michigan-specific statistics.
Visit CDC ART ↗What We Believe In
These are not just principles — they are the decisions we make every time we publish an article.
Total Transparency
We disclose who wrote each article, their personal fertility experience, every source we used, and any limitations in the evidence. No hidden conflicts of interest. No clinic affiliations.
Science First
Patient stories inform our questions — published research answers them. We don't promote unproven supplements, unsupported protocols, or anecdotal treatments without clearly flagging the evidence level.
No Clinic Affiliation
We are completely independent. We do not receive sponsorship from fertility clinics, pharmaceutical companies, or supplement brands. Any advertising is clearly disclosed and does not influence our editorial content.
Plain Language Always
Medical jargon exists to communicate precision between professionals — not to confuse patients. We translate clinical language into plain English without losing accuracy.
Lived Experience Matters
The best fertility journalism combines rigorous research with honest personal experience. Our writers bring both — and we believe that combination produces more useful content than either alone.
Always Improving
We update articles when guidelines change. We correct errors promptly and transparently. We add correction notices rather than quietly editing old content.
