👤 About Michigan Infertility Expert

What is Michigan Infertility Expert? +
Michigan Infertility Expert is an independent patient-led publication covering fertility treatment in Michigan. We publish research-backed guides, plain-language explainers, and honest patient perspectives on IVF, IUI, PGT, PCOS, egg freezing, male infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss, and fertility costs. We are not a clinic, not a medical practice, and not affiliated with any fertility provider.
Who writes the articles? +
Our articles are written by patients who have personal experience with fertility treatment — not by licensed physicians, nurses, or other healthcare providers. Each author discloses their fertility journey in their bio. Our writers collectively bring experience across IVF, IUI, PCOS, male factor infertility, egg freezing, and pregnancy loss — and in most cases hold graduate-level training in science, research, or journalism.
Are you affiliated with any fertility clinic? +
No. We are completely independent. We do not receive funding, editorial direction, or referral fees from any fertility clinic, pharmaceutical company, or supplement brand. Our editorial content is never influenced by advertisers or commercial partners. If we carry display advertising, it is clearly disclosed and does not affect what we write or how we cover topics.
Why Michigan specifically? +
Our founder is based in Metro Detroit and started writing to fill a gap: there was virtually no independent, patient-written resource that helped Michigan families navigate the specific clinics, costs, and coverage landscape in our state. While much of our content is relevant to anyone navigating fertility treatment, we pay special attention to Michigan-specific topics: state insurance mandates, Michigan clinic SART data, Detroit-area RE options, and more.

📝 Our Content

How do you research your articles? +
Every article starts from a patient question — usually one we couldn't find a good answer to ourselves. We research primary sources: ASRM Practice Bulletins, SART national data, Endocrine Society guidelines, peer-reviewed journals (including Fertility & Sterility, JARG, and Human Reproduction), and CDC ART surveillance data. We translate clinical language into plain English without losing accuracy, and cite our sources in every article. See our Editorial Policy for full details.
How current is your information? +
Fertility medicine moves fast. We review and update our articles when ASRM guidelines change, when significant new research is published, or when readers flag outdated information. Every article shows a "Last reviewed" date at the top. We post a correction notice on any article that was materially incorrect and has been updated — we don't quietly edit and pretend it was always right.
Do you cover treatments outside Michigan? +
Many of our articles on IVF protocols, lab science, PCOS management, and PGT testing are relevant regardless of location. However, content about clinic data, insurance coverage, and local resources is Michigan-specific. We note clearly when an article has state-specific information.
Can I trust the success rate data you cite? +
We only cite validated public sources for success rate data — primarily SART (Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology) and CDC ART surveillance. We don't reproduce success rate figures from clinic marketing materials without verification against SART data. We also teach readers how to read SART data — including the demographic factors that make clinic-to-clinic comparisons misleading without proper context.

Medical Questions

Can you answer my personal fertility question? +
We cannot provide personal medical advice, interpret your specific lab results, or recommend a treatment protocol. Our writers are patients, not licensed medical professionals — and even if they were, no responsible clinician would advise you based on a contact form submission. Your reproductive endocrinologist is the only person qualified to address your specific situation. That said, we're happy to help you understand what a medical term means, what questions to ask your RE, or clarify something we wrote in an article.
My AMH / FSH / AFC result came back — what does it mean for me? +
We have articles that explain what AMH, FSH, and AFC measures and how they are generally interpreted — but we cannot interpret your specific number in the context of your health history, age, clinic's protocols, and goals. Numbers that look alarming in isolation can be reassuring in context, and vice versa. Please discuss your results directly with your RE or fertility nurse. If you'd like, we can point you to our articles on ovarian reserve testing.
Should I try [supplement / protocol / natural method] I read about? +
We cover the evidence behind fertility supplements and lifestyle interventions in our articles — including what the current research actually supports and what is marketing hype. But whether you should take a specific supplement or pursue a specific approach depends on your individual circumstances and should be decided with your RE. We are not in a position to tell you what to do — only to help you understand what the science says so you can have an informed conversation with your doctor.

📋 Editorial Standards

I found an error in one of your articles. What should I do? +
Please contact us with the article URL, the specific error, and — if possible — a citation to the correct information. We take corrections seriously. We review every correction request, update the article promptly if warranted, and add a visible correction notice to the article so readers know the content changed. We do not quietly edit errors without acknowledgment.
Do you accept paid content or sponsored articles? +
No. We do not accept sponsored articles, paid clinic reviews, product reviews written in exchange for payment, or any editorial content that is influenced by commercial relationships. We may carry display advertising, which is clearly labeled. We do not accept payment from fertility clinics, pharmaceutical companies, or supplement brands in exchange for favorable editorial coverage. Period.
Do you have a medical reviewer? +
We do not currently have a standing medical reviewer on staff. We believe in being transparent about this: our articles are researched and written by patients using primary sources — we are not a medically-reviewed clinical publication. We reference the ASRM, SART, and peer-reviewed literature, but our interpretation of that research has not been independently verified by a licensed RE. This is a limitation of our publication, and we disclose it clearly.

✍️ Contributing

Can I submit my fertility story? +
Yes — and we'd genuinely love to read it. We look for honest, detailed accounts from Michigan-based patients. We don't require a specific outcome — ongoing treatment, successful pregnancy, decision to stop treatment, adoption — all are valid and valuable stories. Use the contact form to pitch your story, including a brief description of your journey and what you'd like to cover. We pay a small honorarium for published patient stories.
Can I write a guest article? +
We welcome pitches from experienced fertility patients, patient advocates, and researchers (not affiliated with clinics or brands). We do not accept guest articles from fertility clinic staff, pharmaceutical representatives, supplement companies, or anyone with a financial interest in promoting a fertility product or service. All guest content goes through our standard editorial review process and must meet our sourcing standards.
Can I suggest a topic for you to cover? +
Absolutely. Many of our best articles came from reader questions. Use the contact form or email us with your suggestion. We prioritize topics that are frequently asked, underserved by current resources, and specific enough to answer thoroughly. We don't guarantee we'll cover every suggestion, but we read every one.
