Overview of the IVF Journey

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a multi-stage process that involves several key milestones. Understanding these steps can significantly reduce anxiety and help you feel more empowered throughout your journey.

1. Ovarian Stimulation

Patients receive injectable medications to stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs. This phase typically lasts 8-12 days and involves regular monitoring via ultrasound and blood tests.

2. Egg Retrieval

Under light sedation, eggs are retrieved from the follicles using a thin needle guided by ultrasound.

3. Fertilization & Embryo Culture

The retrieved eggs are fertilized in the lab with sperm. The resulting embryos are monitored as they develop over 3-5 days.

4. Embryo Transfer

One or more healthy embryos are transferred into the uterus. This is a simple procedure similar to a pap smear.
